(KENT COUNTY, Mich.) Travel is discouraged across West Michigan on Christmas Eve unless it's absolutely necessary.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, blizzard conditions are expected to last into the evening hours of Saturday.

The Kent County Road Commission says roads in some rural areas are impassable because of snow drifts that are over a foot.

The road commissions says they hope to spend Saturday making these roads passable, especially for emergency vehicles.

Multiple accidents have been reported since the start of this winter storm.

The snowfall that began Thursday combined with below zero windchills and high wind speeds have created icy roads and low visibility over the last few days.

The Kent County Road commission says they won't be able to apply full applications of de-icing chemicals until Sunday or Monday because of the weather conditions.
