Final Oral History Project stop kicks off in Tulsa
The final stop of the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition's Oral History Project kicked off Monday with an opening ceremony in Tulsa.
This week marks the culmination of two and a half years of work documenting the experiences of Native American boarding school survivors across the country. After conducting more than 300 interviews in 19 states, the project is concluding in Oklahoma, the state with the highest number of known boarding schools in the nation.
There is still time for survivors to participate. Native American boarding school survivors who attended federally supported boarding schools before 1970 are invited to share their stories as part of this historic effort.
Those interested in sharing their experience can schedule an interview the following ways:
- Send them an email at OralHistoryProject@nabshc.org
- Call (651) 650-4445
- Sign up online at: https://boardingschoolhealing.org/oral-history-project
By preserving these experiences, survivors are helping future generations better understand the impacts of the boarding school era while contributing to ongoing healing and truth-telling efforts.
